Hello!

It has come to my understanding that some members of CFC would like to be issued a tutorial on how to get the most out of the posting editor. So together, we're going to go from left to right, top to bottom and go through this thing so that everyone from the tech-slow to the tech-savvy will learn something here. So im gonna assume that you don't know anything about editor so we can cover everyone. Chances are you will already know half this stuff. If you feel like you don't need or want a tutorial regarding the editor please feel free to ignore this message. it will be helpful for you to have an empty thread open so you may see these things as we talk about them. Lets define some terms here first.

Category separator: is self explanatory, it is what separates the different categories. Our Category Separators her on LoL are: Camarillo Flying Circus Topics and CFC Forum info.
Category: A Category is what is found below category separators. For example, Off Topic, Videos, and News are Categories under the Category separator labeled "Camarillo Flying Circus Topics". We currently have 9 categories under 2 category separators.
Thread/Topic: A thread, or Topic as it is sometimes called, is a section located inside a category.
Post: A Post is what you normally put up here on CFC. A post is a response to a Topic located in a Category under a Category Separator. Confused yet?

Ok now, on to the editor:

What is an editor anyway? Calling it an Editor is just a fancy way of saying "The thing you type your posts into." a place set aside where you compose your topics and posts before posting them on CFC. the fact that it has features like Smileys and different fonts are what makes it an editor.

BOLD: if you look up to the top left of the editor you will see a darkened "B" This function is meant to point certain things out. Like how I used it above when explaining what the different parts of a forum were. This is simply to draw attention to a word or phrase that you want your readers to see. Instead of using your mouse to go and click the B every time you want to bold a letter or phrase you can just hold down the "Ctrl" button and hit the letter B on your keyboard, CTRL+B. and it will automatically turn on Bold for you and when you want to not use it anymore just hit Ctrl+B again.
ITALICIZE: To Italicize something is to imply a certain inflection in the word. so, say someone says " NickyJames is sooooo cool." When saying that out loud you would put an emphasis on the word "so" right? so to put emphasis while typing you would italicize the word "so" like this; "NickyJames is sooooo cool."  Instead of using your mouse to go and click the Italicized "I" every time you want to Italicize a letter or phrase you can just hold down the "Ctrl" button and hit the letter "I" on your keyboard, CTRL+I. and it will automatically turn on Italicize for you and when you want to not use it anymore just hit Ctrl+I again.

UNDERLINE: When you underline something it's almost for the same purpose as Bolding a word. you want to draw attention to it. So if someone says. "Your name is Rick, right?" you can say. "My name is John." Instead of using your mouse to go and click the underlined U everytime you want to underline a letter or phrase you can just hold down the "Ctrl" button and hit the letter U on your keyboard, CTRL+U. and it will automatically turn on the Underline function for you and when you want to not use it anymore just hit Ctrl+U again.

FONTS: Fonts simply serve a cosmetic purpose. If you want your words to look different. If its something official like what you're reading now you would want to use Serif. But if you want your words to look friendly, you can use Comic Sans. You're encouraged to experiment and customize all your posts. that's why we have all these options.monkey
Left Alignment: is exactly what it sounds like, it aligns all your words to match up against the left of the screen. all posts are automatically set to Left Alignment like what you're reading right now. all scentences start at the left side of the page.

Center Alignment: Is exactly like left alignment in the way that it starts your sentences in the center of the page instead of the left. This is normally used for poems and stuff like this:

"Softly we tremble tonight,

picture perfect fading smiles are all thats left inside,

I said ill never leave, youll never change,

im not satisfied with where im at in life,

How am I supposed to be happy,

all i ever wanted,

it comes with a price,

Am i supposed to be happy,

when all i ever wanted,

it comes at a price,

you said, you said you would die for me,

you must live for me too..."

Bullet points: bullet points are often used when listing things, like this:

"My favorite Lifehouse songs are:

  • Spin
  • Come Back Down
  • Blind
  • Chapter One

Undo: The Little green arrow you see turning around between the bullet points and the "WWWLink". What undo does is simply undo what you just did. so say your posting a pic of jason and it comes up and its the wrong one, you just simply click undo and it takes the picture away so everything is like it was before posting it. and it leaves the rest of your thread alone.

WWW link: You would use the "WWW link" button when you want to direct members to a website. so lets say i wanted to direct you to the CFC Forum. instead of just posting the link like this: "HEY! View the CFC Forum at www.climbfall.lefora.com "  I could instead say "Hey! click here to view the CFC forum." if you want to insert a "www link" all you do it type out a scentence like "Click here to visit the best forum evar!" then click the WWW link button and type the website that viewers will be redirected to. so for instance, I'm going to type "www.climbfall.lefora.com" in the text field. then what you do is highlight, with your mouse, the part that would send members to another page. in this instace im going to highlight "click here" and then hit the green "link text selection" button. and the words will appear blue. in the end it will look like this: "Click here to visit the best forum evar!"

Insert Image: Be aware that there are two ways to insert images on the new editor, we are currently discussing the one that says "Insert Image" next to the Embed Flash button. You use the insert image button to Upload pictures from the internet. so say you google image search "Lifehouse", chances are you are going to get the album cover of Lifehouse's self titled album. say you want to insert that image here on CFC. you would right click that picture with your mouse and a little menu pops up. you click at the bottom where it says "Properties". in there you will see something that says "Address (URL)" it will have a little code behind it. you highlight that code using your mouse by clicking the code 3 times and you will see it get highlighted in blue. you then right click the highlighted code (that usually must end in ".JPG" or ".PNG." or ".GIF" in order to be posted on CFC) and hit copy. when you come back here to CFC. you click the "Insert Image" button and it brings down a drop-down menu that tells you to insert image URL. you right click the empty box there and hit paste. and the code from that picture will paste itself into that blank text field. you then hit "Insert image" and it will put the image in the post! remember that the code must end in ".JPG" or ".PNG." or ".GIF" in order to be posted on CFC. I say that because sometimes at the end of the code it will say something like ".jpg pg1" that "pg1" will make it so the image wont insert into your post. so just be sure that when you paste it here onto the image insertion that you erase anything thats after the jpg. and your end result should look like this:

now you will see that when you post an image you will see it have little white boxes around the edges of it. you can click and drag these boxes to adjust the size of the picture you inserted. but be careful because the more you adjust the picture the more it will lose its integrity and look less clear.

Embed Flash: The Embed Flash button is used to put videos in your post from websites like www.youtube.com or www.imeem.com . when you view the page where the video you want to post on CFC is located somewhere on that page you will see an embed code. an embed code looks something like this:

 "<object width="400" height="345"><param name="movie" value="http://media.imeem.com/v/N04pYTS36T/aus=false/pv=2"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://media.imeem.com/v/N04pYTS36T/aus=false/pv=2" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="345" allowFullScreen="true"></embed></object><br/><a href="Broken' rel=nofollow>Broken' rel=nofollow>Broken' rel=nofollow>Broken'>http://www.imeem.com/lifehouse/video/qOtshjdb/lifehouse_broken_music_video/">Broken - Lifehouse</a>"

and what you do it click the "Embed Flash" button and it will bring down a drop menu prompting you to paste the flash embed code into the emtpy text box there. I already explained how to copy and paste things so i wont do it again here. and you hit the green "embed flash" button and it will put the song in your post! however you will probably just see a red fox with a Big F in it. the F means "Flash" but that means your video uploaded succesfully. when i pasted that embed code above into the embed flash button we get this:

Broken - Lifehouse

Smileys: its simple. A smiley is an animation you use to express emotion in a post. so you can say "CONGRATULATIONS!!!grin" or if you were so inclined you sould say "i hate youneutral" but thats not nice.devil. we will be expanding our Smiley section in the near future so just use what you got for now!surprise.
Upload Files: This feature is very common to the "Insert image" button. except that it is used to upload images from your COMPUTER  the reason i make a big stink about that is because ive had countless PMs from confused members on my other website trying to upload pictures from the internet using the "Upload Files" button and vice versa. When you click this button it will bring up a menu from your "MY Computer" section of your PC and you just need to find the picture you want to upload and double click it and hit "open" in your My Computer menu. it will take a sec to upload and you can track its progress at the bottom of the editor. and once it says "uploaded" you have succesfully uploaded it to your post. but it will NOT show on your post until you actually post it. It will not appear while youre still composing your message.
THIS TOOK FOREVER!!!!grin. but i hope it helped some of you better understand. FOR PICTURES THAT YOU UPLOAD, YOU WILL SEE SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS WHO CLICK THE LINK. the reason for this is because your clicking the link from the same CPU you uploaded from. so all it does it open up the file on your computer. I assure you that posting pics from your CPU is 1000% safe. I would never put your guys safety at risk.

and if you have any questions or would like something explained into further detail please do not hesitate to PM me and i will be happy to help you out.
Thank you,
Nicky Jamesdevil
